1986
A Vision is Born
In 1986, William R. Benner Jr. and Patrick Murphy founded Pangolin Laser Systems, driven by a simple yet bold idea: to make laser show technology more powerful, more accessible, and more creative than ever before. That same year, they launched the groundbreaking Laser PC, the first system to bring desktop laser control to the masses. Suddenly, laser artistry was no longer limited to elite labs — it was in the hands of creators everywhere.
1995
Setting the Global Standard
Nearly a decade later, Pangolin forever reshaped the industry with the launch of Lasershow Designer 2000 (LD2000), powered by the now-legendary QM2000 hardware. This platform didn’t just raise the bar — it set the global industry standard for laser show design and control. From theme parks and touring artists to the world’s biggest events, LD2000 became the trusted tool for professionals who demanded perfection.
2004
Precision on the Timeline
The release of Showtime for LD2000 brought new levels of timeline-based programming and precision control, empowering designers to synchronize lasers with music and multimedia like never before.
2006
The Networked Future
Pangolin once again led the way with QM2000.NET and the Flashback 3 SE.
- QM2000.NET introduced the first industry-wide network control platform, liberating show designers from hardware limitations.
- FB3 SE became the first integrated control solution, bringing laser show technology into a compact, versatile package.
2008
Power, Performance, and Growth
A watershed year for Pangolin:
QuickShow software arrived, immediately becoming the standard for laser show control.
FB3QS hardware was introduced — the first true plug-and-play USB controller, instantly adopted worldwide.
And in a crucial innovation for the industry, Pangolin unveiled Lasorb— the world’s first proven laser diode protection device, safeguarding the very heart of every laser projector.
2011
Beyond Boundaries
Pangolin releases the BEYOND software platform, and once again redefines professional laser as well as multimedia control. BEYOND fused laser artistry with multimedia integration, opening new creative horizons for shows that blending lasers with video, lights, pyro, stage automation and more.
2014
Hardware That Changed the Game
The launch of FB4 and ScannerMAX marked another leap forward:
- FB4 became the staple of integrated, network-based laser hardware, now found inside projectors around the globe.
- ScannerMAX galvos set a new performance benchmark, redefining how beams and graphics were drawn in the air.
2015
A Powerful Partnership
Recognizing that the future lay not only in control systems but in projectors themselves, Pangolin partnered with Kvant Lasers. Together, they pursued a bold mission: to build a better laser projector, merging Pangolin’s unmatched software, control, and scanning technologies with Kvant’s mastery of optical engineering.
2020
Unity is Born
From this partnership emerged Unity Laser, expanding the Pangolin and Kvant product offerings, to a new generation of emerging lighting professionals.
2025
Standing at the Forefront
Today, Pangolin, Kvant, Unity, ScannerMAX, and Lasorb together form a global technology group leading the charge in laser entertainment. Pushing the boundaries of technology, and empowering lighting professionals to bring their visions to life in light.
